Stepping Stones... To Primary School
Our Stepping Stones sessions are designed specifically to offer children a gentle introduction to life at ‘big school’, helping them feel confident when they finally make the move from pre-school to primary education.
These sessions are fun and stimulating and include, amongst other things, a focus on letters, sounds and numeracy. The Stepping Stones curriculum is engaging and fun, with lots of games and activities. Each child receives their own workbook for mark making and writing and a Stepping Stones bag, to keep their workbook and PE kit in. The children are encouraged to change into their own PE Kit for physical activities, aiding with self-care skills and preparing them for school sports.
Stepping Stones sessions are open to all children starting school in the following September. At Marshfield Pre-School, we are proud of our commitment to education in early years, so alongside our focused ‘Stepping Stones’ sessions, we ensure some time is set aside every day for focused literacy and numeracy learning, so all the older children can benefit. Stepping Stones sessions currently take place on Thursday afternoons 1.30-3pm.
Learning Ladybirds
Learning Ladybirds runs parallel to Stepping Stones, these sessions are for children from the age of two. As a group the younger children begin with learning how to link sounds, nursery rhymes and understanding rhythm and rhymes. We link the primary colours and shapes together and connect them to their environment. During these sessions the children also take part in music and movement teaching them about coordination and spatial awareness with others. Learning Ladybirds prepares the children throughout the year ready for the next chapter moving forward into Stepping Stones.
