Our Pre-School

We are really lucky to have two fantastic outdoor areas.

At the front of Pre-School we have an all weather outdoor surface and outdoor classroom; this allows us to use the garden all year round. It is perfect for physical play, ball games as well as riding bikes and scooters. In our front garden we have a climbing frame which helps the children develop their own risk taking and gross motor skills.

At the back of Pre-School we have our wonderful exploratory garden. This garden is designed to help the children make the most of the natural environment where they can explore water and sand, dig and plant fruit and vegetables as well as flowers. There is a sand pit, mud kitchen and raised flower and vegetable patch beds. The children grow various fruits and veg during the year. We have previously grown our own strawberries, raspberries, potatoes and pumpkins.

Marshfield Pre-School is a purpose-built facility, next door to Marshfield Community Centre. The Pre-School room is large and spacious to allow the children to move freely.

We have child-sized toilets and wash basins which makes it much easier for children to learn to manage their own personal hygiene and independence when attending to their toileting needs.

We also have access to the halls in the Community Centre which we use each day for focus group activities as well as music and movement and PE sessions.

Every day is fun and exciting at Pre-School with lots of different activities to try and friends to play with. We follow a basic routine every day to ensure that the children feel settled and secure in their Pre-School experience, although children are also able to choose what they would like to do or get involved with.

All our food and snacks (morning and afternoon) reflect our commitment to encouraging a healthy lifestyle. At lunchtime, many of our children have a hot meal prepared in Marshfield Primary School’s kitchen (£3.00 each). Alternatively, you are very welcome to bring a packed lunch.

We love to play and explore outside as much as possible. Please ensure your child always has appropriate clothing (labelled with your child’s name) – wellies and a coat when it is wet, sunhat and suncream when it is hot. It is really handy to have a spare set of clothes every session – just in case we get wet, muddy or splashed with paint!

We offer a full time service, 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday so we are perfectly set up to support all parents, including those who work. Each day is made up of a Morning Session (9am – 12 noon) and an Afternoon Session (1 – 4pm) with the addition of an Early Breakfast Club(7.30-8 am) Breakfast Club (8 – 9 am), Lunch Club (12 noon – 1 pm) and Tea Club 3:30 or 4 – 6 pm).

We deliver our main Pre-school programme (based on the Early Years Foundation Stage) during the Morning and Afternoon Sessions. These sessions are for children from the age of two up until they leave for primary school.

Breakfast Club and Tea Club are open to all children aged between 2 and 11 years old, so we can provide before and after-school care for older children as well as pre-schoolers. Breakfast and Tea are provided for a small charge.

We also provide a drop-off and pick-up service for children who attend Marshfield Primary School. Children who attend Breakfast Club walk, accompanied by staff, down to Marshfield Primary School and can be collected at the end of the school day to come along to our Tea Club.

As an Ofsted Registered provider, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It is a statutory framework which sets a comprehensive range of standards for settings providing childcare and education to children from birth to five years old.

As we follow the EYFS, you can be confident that we set the highest standards in the quality of our service. So, whilst your child is having fun and making friends we will also be ensuring that they receive an experience which supports every aspect of their learning and development.

The framework provided by the EYFS underpins all the planning we do. We ensure that we provide activities and experiences which focus on all the areas highlighted by the EYFS to ensure the best possible outcomes for our children.

We plan our sessions in a number of ways. We have an overall plan or series of themes for each term which are then broken down week by week into smaller themes and specific activities and workshops. We also look at the interests and needs of each child and identify what their ‘next steps’ are and then work out how these can be incorporated into the themes and activities.

During a session,  your child may express an interest in something new, this will be recorded and activities and resources will be provided to support your child’s further learning and development.

Our Stepping Stones sessions are designed specifically to offer children a gentle introduction to life at ‘big school’, to help them feel confident when they finally make the move from Pre-School. These sessions are fun and stimulating and include, amongst over things, a focus on letters, sounds and numeracy. The Stepping Stones curriculum is engaging and fun, with lots of games, activities and races. Each child receives their own ‘busy book’ for drawing and writing. Stepping Stones sessions are open to all pre-school age children. So even our youngest members can join in the fun whilst the staff team ensure the older children are challenged and stimulated accordingly.

Our Learning Ladybirds Sessions are designed for the younger children these sessions focus on the children learning individuating , self care and exploring through messy play.

Marshfield Pre-school Outdoor Learning sessions support the development of healthy and active lifestyles. They offer children opportunities for physical activity, freedom and movement, and helps to promote a sense of well-being. Children come into contact with the natural world and they have experiences that are unique to outdoors, such as direct contact with the weather and the seasons. They also support the development of children’s problem-solving skills and nurtures their creativity. They provide rich opportunities for their developing imagination, inventiveness and resourcefulness. They are particularly important to those children who learn best through active movement as there is more space.

Marshfield Pre-school Outdoor Learning sessions provide the opportunity for children to play safely and freely whilst learning to assess risk and develop the skills to manage new situations. The experiences take place in our pre-school gardens, the front green and out and about in the community.

Holiday Club

Marshfield Pre-School is also home to Marshfield Holiday Club, a fantastic provision run by our Pre-School staff during the school holidays. We offer a great range of events and activities, often seasonally led, to make sure the holidays are packed full of fun. Past activities have included exploring the Autumnal outdoors, having visitors such as Perform, den building, sports , music and dance, making a bird box, plus lots of crafts and fun with food.

Marshfield Holiday Club is open to all children aged between 2 and 11 years, so if your pre-schooler has older siblings, it’s perfect for them all to have fun during the holidays. The mix of age groups works really well; the older children love nurturing and challenging the youngsters whilst the younger children are delighted to be able to join with the ‘big kids’! At times our sessions are booked to capacity and a great time is had by all.

Marshfield Holiday Club runs throughout the year during the school holidays, offering you the same flexibility as during term time.

Marshfield Holiday Club is to be booked separately from term time sessions with our booking forms. These can be emailed to you with a list of the Holiday Club activities.
