              Here is a very simple overview of our planning; we work on setting up the environment and activities to promote the following:

Terms one and two

§          Managing personal hygiene, flushing toilets, washing hands.

§          Settling in, separating from parents with confidence.

§          Recalling past and future events.

§          Respecting toys and understanding tidy up time

§          Learning our names, making friends, feeling confident.

§          Small group work activities

§          say good morning and good afternoon to each other

§          introduce makaton signing

§          Go through the ground rules and develop an understanding

§          Songs, music, poetry and story time

§          Rhymes and rhyming

§          Individual numbers from 1-10

§          Where the children live – features in the environment

§          Activities to use all senses

§          Lots of different writing opportunities

§          Lots of writing materials

§          Different malleable materials.

Terms three and four

(strengthen skills learnt in terms one and two and beginning to introduce the following)

§          Lots of sharing opprtuniites.

§          Turn taking opportunities

§          Sitting encouragement- sititng at meal times and registration.

§          Opportunities to dress and undress, P.E, Dance, music and movement and outside play.

§          Making books

§          Writing opportunities / writing with different media

§          2d and 3d shapes

§          Colour and texture in 2d and 3d

Terms five and six

§          Weighing – heavier and lighter

§          Recording own sounds

§          Recognising changes to our bodies when active, understanding keeping healthy and the things that help us keep healthy

§          Writing opprtunties and different media.

§          Programmable toys and I.T

§          Story making project – lots of work on 1 story – can children re-tell the story in their own word? Discuss characters, change endings, ask who, how, when, where and why?
